When I went back to Tanzania to freelance in 2011, I honestly had zero clue what it meant to freelance, or how it would be to work without a big, fat car with an NGO logo and free mileage, an outstanding villa in Regent Estate, decent insurance and retirement benefits. (I know that now).
However, within less than 48 hours after I arrived to Tanzania and I had begun my first assignment, I had posters ready for a launch of a report, analysing East Africa's educational system, in one of Dar es Salaam's most beautiful buildings. The place where Julius Nyerere, the first President of Tanzania, was sworn in.
2011 was a wild year.
